If you are using the PAD-5 USB IR adapter

1) Is the PAD-5 cable connected securely to your computer's USB port?
Firmly but gently push the connectors into the IR adapter and computer ports to make sure they are plugged in as far as they will go.
2) Use the following procedure to make sure that the PAD-5 driver is correctly installed on your computer.
1. Select [Start] [Settings] [Control Panel].
2. Double-click the [System] icon.
3. Select the [Hardware] tab.
4. Click the [Device Manager] button.
5. In the Device Manager list, double-click [IR Devices].
6. If you can see "CASIO PAD-5" under [IR Devices], it means the PAD-5 driver is installed correctly. If you cannot see "CASIO PAD-5" under [IR Devices], or if there is a "?" or "!" mark next to "CASIO PAD-5", it means the PAD-5 driver is not installed correctly.
7. In this case, uninstall the current PAD-5 driver and then re-install it.
(1) Delete the file C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\STIRUSB.SYS.
(2) Delete "CASIO PAD-5" from Device Manager's [IR Devices].

If you are using your computer's built in IrDA port

1) Make sure the built-in IrDA port is enabled.
Some computer models have a built-in IrDA port whose settings can be configured using a special utility or by changing BIOS settings. If you have such a computer, you should use the setup screen of your special utility to change the setting of the built-in IrDA port from "Disabled" to "Enabled." The actual procedure you should use to check and change the setting depends on your computer model. See the documentation that came with your computer or contact the manufacturer of your computer for more information.
If you are using the PAD-2B 9-pin serial IR adapter

1) Is the PAD-2B cable connected securely to your computer's serial port?
Firmly but gently push the connector into the port to make sure it is plugged in as far as it will go.
2) Use the following procedure to check the port number where the IR adapter is connected and the IR transceiver name.

1. Select [Start] [Settings] [Control Panel].
2. Double-click the [System] icon.
3. Select the [Hardware] tab.
4. Click the [Device Manager] button.
5. In the Device Manager list, double-click [IR Devices].
6. In the [IR Devices] list, double-click "ESI-9680 JetEye Serial Infrared Device".
7. Select the [IrDA Settings] tab.
8. For [COM Port], specify the COM port where the IR adapter is connected.

3) Check the settings of your computer's COM port.
If your computer has both a built-in IR port and modem, its COM port may be disabled. Use the following procedure to check your computer's COM port setting.

1. Select [Start] [Settings] [Control Panel].
2. Double-click the [System] icon.
3. Select the [Hardware] tab.
4. Click the [Device Manager] button.
5. In the Device Manager list, double-click [Ports (COM & LPT)], and look at the port number where the PAD-2B is connected. If [Communications Port (COM1)] is indicated, it means that the COM port number is COM1. There may be multiple COM port numbers indicated.

4) Check your special utility/BIOS setup.
If your computer has a special utility for changing the BIOS setup, you may need to use the special utility to change your serial port (COM port) settings. If you have such a computer, you should use the setup screen of your special utility to change the setting of the built-in IrDA port from "Disabled" to "Enabled." The actual procedure you should use to check and change the setting depends on your computer model. See the documentation that came with your computer or contact the manufacturer of your computer for more information.
